Battle of the Books is a 4^th and 5^th grade reading competition. Students at Chicod will compete for 12 spots on our team. Our team will then go on to compete against other elementary Battle of the Books teams for the county title. The county's winning team will go on to compete in the Regional competition. The competition is usually around February/March.

There are 16 books on the 2025-2026 list. If you are really interested, you will want to go ahead and get started over the summer. You can:

• Check out free books at the public libraries 

• Check out free e-books and audiobooks via the Sora app. (1) Go to soraapp.com → (2) “Find My School” → (3) Select Pitt County Schools and click “This is my school.” → sign in using their school username and password used to sign on to a Pitt County School device/chromebook.

• Books are also available for purchase at Barnes & Noble and other book retailers.

Students will be required to read all 16 books on the list.  A sign-up sheet will be out at Open House and during the first couple weeks of school. Practices will begin in September/October 2025.
