Only students in their 8th-grade year who live in the Pitt County Public Schools district are eligible to apply for enrollment at IECHS. Please see below for the steps in the application process.

The Application Process  

The application window for the 2025-2026 school year has closed. 

1. If possible, attend a student and parent information session. The dates for the parent information meetings are below.

October 22 or October 29, 2024, at 6:00 PM at East Carolina University Brewster Building, D Wing. Please use the following map for parking information. 

2. Complete a paper application available through this website and any PCS Middle School Counselor after late October. 

• • Please complete the application in its entirety. If you need help, ask your school counselor, teacher, or parent.

3. Complete the application and submit it to your PCS school counselor by January 10, 2025. Counselors will then submit the counselor section and teacher recommendations to IECHS. Homeschool applicants may also submit their completed application, counselor section, and teacher recommendation directly to IECHS by January 10, 2025.

• IECHS staff scores all applications and notifies students of acceptance for an interview.
• IECHS schedules interviews. Students and middle school counselors are notified of the date and time. This process usually occurs between mid- and late February. 
• Students will be notified of acceptance into the program or of being placed on a waitlist after the interview process has closed. This process usually occurs in late March.
