Campapalooza 2025 Academic Summer Camp
Chowan University is planning Campapalooza 2025 Academic Summer Camp and it is going to be the best one yet! Our academic summer camp offers a 5-day college experience for high school students. Our camps offer fun, learning and friends! We are planning some new camps this year as well as some old favorites! Regional Aspiring Teachers and Educators (PIRATE) program. The PIRATE program will be June 18-20, 2025, and will include three days and staying two nights in a residence hall. The application is open and can be accessed at bit.ly/429aDr8.
West Point Summer Programs
The United States Military Academy at West Point is excited to offer two unique opportunities for high school and middle school students to experience the Academy this summer.Opportunity 1: Summer Leader Experience (SLE) View Flyer
This one-week program is designed for current high school juniors, offering them a unique opportunity to experience life as a Cadet at West Point. The action-packed week will be both challenging and rewarding, with participants taking part in:- Four hands-on academic workshops selected from 17 different options, taught by West Point faculty.
- Physical and mental challenges, including indoor and outdoor obstacle courses, intramurals, and the Candidate Fitness Assessment.
- Leadership and character development through team challenges, the Leader Reaction Course, and ethics discussions led by West Point Cadets.

Students can choose between two SLE sessions:
- May 31 – June 6
- June 7 – June 13
Applications for SLE open on February 15, and selections will be made on a rolling basis starting March 15. Completing this application also fulfills the first portion of the application to West Point.
West Point provides scholarships to cover the costs of SLE fees and travel expenses for students who have proven financial need.

Opportunity 2: Summer STEM Workshops
For students in 6th through 9th grade, West Point will host its annual Summer STEM Workshops. During these workshops, students will explore the Academy grounds, experience cadet life, and participate in a variety of hands-on STEM activities. Workshop topics include human physiology, fuel cell cars, propellants, robotics, cantilevers, soldering circuits, fish biodiversity, water chemistry, meteorology, egg drop engineering, data analytics, and more.The workshops are scheduled as follows:
- June 2–6 for 6th-7th graders
- June 9–13 for 8th-9th graders

ECU Health VolunTEEN Program

Do you know a high school student, ages 15 – 17 who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in healthcare and making a positive impact in their community? Applications for the ECU Health Medical Center VolunTEEN program are open from Monday, Jan. 13 through Monday, Jan. 27.
The 8-week program, running from Monday, June 23 to Friday, Aug. 15, provides teens the opportunity to serve in various roles across ECU Health Medical Center. VolunTEENS interact with team members, observe hospital operations and contribute to daily functions throughout the hospital, working in key areas that offer exposure to different aspects of health care.
Some of these key areas include:
Patient Transport & Escorting: Guiding patients to testing areas, helping them reach their rooms, supporting admissions and discharges and verifying patient information to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.
Nursing & Clinical areas: Working alongside clinical staff to perform non-clinical tasks like patient transport, clerical duties and helping maintain organized and clean patient areas.
Clerical & Administrative areas: Managing tasks such as answering phones, filing documents, running errands and organizing materials. VolunTEENs may also assist with data entry and inventory management.
Guest Services & Wayfinding: Greeting patients and visitors, providing directions and assisting with traffic flow in hospital lobbies to create a welcoming atmosphere.
Through these varied roles, VolunTEENs gain experience, contribute to the hospital’s daily operations and enhance the patient experience.
Program requirements
To apply, students must:
- Be at least 15 years old by the start of the program and on track to complete 9th grade by the end of the 2024-2025 school year
- Commit to at least one 4-hour shift per week for the duration of the 8-week program
- Complete a total of 35 hours of volunteer service by the end of the program
- Attend a mandatory orientation in June
Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27.
VolunTEENs are expected to serve for the full 8-week program, with no more than two absences. Students who meet all program requirements will be eligible to continue in the School Year VolunTEEN Program, which runs from September to May and will also be the first to be invited to return for future summer programs.

Are you interested in Journalism? This may be a program for you.Juniors this is an opportunity to stay on the campus of Elon University (June 16-27).All students are eligible to participate in the virtual sessions.
Year four of the Emerging Journalists Program at Elon University starts this month with its first virtual workshop on Jan. 16, and there’s still time for your students to apply. High schoolers of any class year are welcome to join these virtual sessions. But better yet, we’re now starting to review applications for the free, fun and immersive summer experience that’s scheduled for June 16-27, 2025. This on-campus residential learning workshop is open to rising seniors from diverse socio-economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. And, again, it’s completely free. EJP pays for students’ travel, lodging, meals and instructional materials, so now’s the time for your students to submit their applications.
Last year’s summer cohort produced a newspaper, a 40-minute newscast and a website. Here’s a snapshot of what our students did while on campus with us.

Read for more information.Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP)STEP is a chance for rising high school seniors to experience the best of what the Wilson College of Textiles and NC State have to offer. During one of five weeks in the summer of 2025, students will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, current students and alumni while exploring textiles through projects, workshops and other activities. Students will develop skills in design thinking, coding, graphic design, presentation, teamwork, critical thinking, and so much more.

Ready, Set, App! offers a multitude of resources to aid students in the app building process, including a team of dedicated interns with app building experience who will meet with students regularly, providing mentorship and guidance.

What: North Carolina Business Committee for Education’s Ready, Set, App! challenge is a mobile app development competition for high school students sponsored by Lenovo™. Student groups are asked to develop a mobile app to solve a problem in their school or community.
Who: Ready, Set, App! is open to all NC high school students. Students will participate in groups of 3 - 5 along with an advisor. This can be a teacher, school faculty member, or community leader.
When: Registration is open now until January 27th, 2025 at 11:59 PM. App projects are due in March 2025.
How: Student groups will create a functioning mobile app using a mobile app development platform (e.g., MIT App Inventor, App Lab, etc.) to solve a problem in their school or community. They will then create a two-part video that includes an app pitch with demo, and a group reflection. Those videos will then be voted on, and the top teams will go to the final pitch competition where they will pitch their apps to a live audience and panel of professionals for the chance to win prizes courtesy of Lenovo™.
