Open Enrollment
To increase enrollment and maximize opportunities, a student may be reassigned to another school participating in open enrollment or the open enrollment lottery. Those schools participating in open enrollment and the open enrollment lottery will be identified in a list approved annually by the board prior to March 1.
Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year will begin on March 1 and end on August 15 for students to attend an open enrollment school on the first day of the 2025-2026 school year. Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, PCS will introduce an additional open enrollment option: the open enrollment lottery. This lottery allows parents/guardians to submit an application to fill available seats in grade levels with open capacity at schools that are not on the approved open enrollment list. The application for the open enrollment lottery will open on March 1 and will close on March 15.

Application for Open Enrollment 2025-2026 School Year
- Do not submit an open enrollment application if your child has already been approved through exit grade unless you have moved

Application for Open Enrollment Lottery 2025-2026 School Year
- To be eligible for a lottery seat award, your child MUST meet all of the following criteria: Open Enrollment Lottery Criteria.

This application will open on March 1 and will close on March 15.

A randomized lottery using student ID numbers will be conducted during the week of March 24. Please note: a technology-enabled randomizer tool will be utilized to do a blind lottery selection using student identification numbers of the students that meet the lottery enrollment criteria.

Parents/guardians will be notified of lottery seat award status or waitlist status by March 31 using the email address provided on the application.

Parent/guardians will have three school days to accept the award or waitlist status by emailing studentservices@pitt.k12.nc.us. This email must be sent by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 or your lottery seat or waitlist spot will be forfeited.

Please note, siblings will not be given lottery preference.

2024-25 Open Enrollment
There is one more window for elementary and middle school students to apply for open enrollment for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year, March 27-April 2. Approved Open Enrollment requests received during this time will begin on the first day of the 4th marking period.
